What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)?

NLP is a system for understanding human behaviour. It is a model of excellence that allows us to understand the difference between someone who is merely competent at what they do and someone who excels.

This is understood through the idea that how we think and feel affects the way we perform. So NLP provides us with insight into ‘how’ someone is producing the behaviours they do, and if that behaviour’s not working for them, we can use NLP techniques to give us ways with which to change that behaviour.

Neuro Linguistic Programming: What can it offer Elite Sport? An article originally written for the ECB elite coach magazine ontheup in 2010

Why NLP?

Football/goal keeper coach and creator of Response Ball, Glenn Robertson, talks about the positive effects the NLP Sport Practitioner course has had on his personal and professional life.

NLP is an attitude and method towards being more effective in everything we do and works on...

N –Neuro: How we store and interpret information in our mind and nervous system

L –Linguistic: How we use language (verbal and non-verbal) and the effect it has on us and other people

P –Programming: How we develop and run the patterns and habits that are responsible for the behaviours we produce

NLP is an blend of practical knowledge about human communication and personality, which provides us with a set of guiding principles, attitudes, and techniques about real-life behaviour. It offers techniques to change, adopt or eliminate unwanted/unhelpful behaviours, and gives us the ability to choose our mental, emotional, and physical states of well-being.

Perfect for enhancing performance both on and off the field!
